Dr. Harleen Quinzel was a dedicated and ambitious psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, where she worked to understand and treat Gotham City's criminally insane, including the infamous Joker. Harleen becomes fascinated with the Joker during her therapy sessions with him. Despite the Joker's notorious criminal history, she is drawn to his charisma and charm, believing that she can understand and rehabilitate him.

As Harleen spends more time with the Joker, she becomes romantically infatuated with him. The Joker, in turn, manipulates her emotions and exploits her vulnerabilities. Harleen's infatuation and emotional connection to the Joker lead to her eventual transformation. Driven by her love for him and a desire to be with him, she undergoes a radical change in identity, adopting the name "Harley Quinn."

Embracing her new identity as Harley Quinn, she willingly becomes the Joker's partner in crime. Her character shifts from that of a professional psychiatrist to a gleefully chaotic and unpredictable criminal.

Harley Quinn adopts a harlequin-inspired costume, featuring a red and black color scheme and a jester's hat.

Harley Quinn and the Joker form a notorious criminal partnership, engaging in various criminal activities and wreaking havoc in Gotham City.

Over time, Harley Quinn has embarked on solo adventures independent of the Joker. In certain storylines, she undergoes redemption attempts, distancing herself from the Joker's influence and exploring her own identity beyond their tumultuous relationship.

Harley Quinn's character has evolved to become more complex. She is no longer solely defined by her connection to the Joker and has become a popular and independent character in her own right.
