Created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George PĂ©rez, Cyborg first appeared in "DC Comics Presents" #26 in 1980. Victor Stone was originally a promising young athlete, the son of scientists Silas and Elinore Stone. His life took a drastic turn when he was caught in a violent explosion caused by an otherworldly being known as a "Boom Tube."The explosion resulted from an experiment involving a Mother Box, a highly advanced piece of technology from the planet New Genesis. In an effort to save his son's life, Dr. Silas Stone used cutting-edge cybernetic technology to rebuild Victor's body. The cybernetic enhancements included prosthetic limbs, advanced artificial organs, and a cybernetic interface that allowed Victor to connect with technology.
